Eduard EX659 mask set – canopy painting masks for the Do 217N-1 model (ICM) in 1:48 scale

Eduard EX659 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the Do 217N-1 model from ICM. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included.

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Dornier Do 217E:

The Dornier Do 217 was a German twin-engine medium-range bomber, developed from the earlier Do 17 as a larger and heavier machine with increased bomb load and range. It was a high-wing aircraft with a compact fuselage, its crew grouped in a glazed nose, and retractable landing gear. The Do 217E version was powered by two radial engines and served primarily as a bomber.

The Do 217E was used by the Luftwaffe from the early 1940s for bombing, anti-shipping strikes and as a torpedo carrier. This family also spawned versions carrying guided glide bombs and night fighters. The machine had strong defensive armament. In total, about 1900 examples of all Do 217 versions were built.
