Eduard JX171 mask set – canopy painting masks for the X-15A model (Special Hobby) in 1:32 scale

Eduard JX171 is a set of self-adhesive 1:32 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the X-15A model from Special Hobby. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included.

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – North American X-15:

The North American X-15 is an American single-seat rocket-powered research aircraft, built from the late 1950s to study flight at high speed and high altitude. It was carried aloft under the wing of a B-52 bomber and released in the air, after which it ignited its rocket engine. Three aircraft were built and flew a total of 199 flights between 1959 and 1968.

The X-15 programme produced data on aerodynamics, structural heating and control at the edge of the atmosphere, later applied to crewed spaceflight. The aircraft reached a speed of nearly seven times the speed of sound and an altitude exceeding 100 km. Some flights qualified as spaceflights under US criteria. One of the aircraft was lost in a crash in 1967.
