Description

Bachem Ba 349 A/V Natter – German Experimental Rocket Interceptor – Fly 1:32

This 1:32 scale kit from Fly represents the Bachem Ba 349 “Natter,” one of the most unusual aircraft developed by Nazi Germany during the final phase of WWII. Designed for vertical takeoff, the Natter was intended to intercept Allied bombers using a volley of unguided rockets. After the attack, the pilot was to eject, and the fuselage would return via parachute. The Fly model captures this concept in large scale, featuring photo-etched and resin parts for experienced modelers.

  • Highly detailed representation of the crewed A/V test version
  • Mixed-media kit with plastic, resin, and PE components
  • Detailed interior including cockpit and rocket engine
  • Unique subject for late WWII collections

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:32
  • Length: approx. 22.3 cm
  • Manufacturer: Fly
  • Skill level: advanced

Note: Kit does not include glue, paints, or tools. Assembly required.

Kit features and recommendations:

This mixed-media model includes resin and photo-etched parts requiring cyanoacrylate glue and modeling experience. The cockpit and Walter HWK 509 rocket motor are finely detailed. Designed for skilled modelers seeking unique aircraft subjects.

Recommended tools and materials:

  • Hobby knife and sprue cutters
  • Files or sanding paper
  • Plastic and super glue (cyanoacrylate)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Paints according to the instructions

About the Bachem Ba 349 Natter:

The Bachem Ba 349 Natter was a German rocket-powered interceptor designed in 1944 for rapid vertical takeoff. Intended as a last-ditch defense against Allied bombers, the aircraft launched vertically and fired a salvo of R4M rockets. It was to be partially recoverable after pilot ejection. Only a few were built and even fewer flown with pilots. The concept never reached operational deployment.

Historical specifications:

  • Length: approx. 6.0 m
  • Engine: Walter HWK 109-509A-2 rocket motor
  • Top speed: approx. 1000 km/h
  • Range: approx. 40 km
  • Armament: 24 × R4M unguided rockets (planned)
  • Crew: 1
