Description

Plastic model kit of the Aichi B7A2 Ryusei Kai “Grace” – 21st Air Arsenal, 752nd Flying Group

Hasegawa 07550 in 1:48 scale represents the Aichi B7A2 Ryusei (codenamed Grace), the Imperial Japanese Navy’s late–WWII carrier-based attack and torpedo bomber. This edition features decals for the 21st Air Arsenal and the 752nd Flying Group. Although introduced too late to significantly influence the outcome of the war, the Ryusei was among the most advanced Japanese carrier aircraft designs of its time.

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Model length: approx. 26.6 cm
  • Wingspan: approx. 37.4 cm
  • Manufacturer: Hasegawa
  • Skill level: beginner / intermediate

Note: Glue, paints and modeling tools are not included. The kit is intended for self-assembly.

Model building:

The kit includes a finely detailed fuselage, cockpit for two crew, folding wings, landing gear, and bomb/torpedo armament. Decals are provided for historically accurate IJN markings of the 21st Air Arsenal and 752nd Flying Group. Thanks to precise molding and good fit, the kit is suitable both for beginner and intermediate builders.

Recommended tools:

  • Modeling knife or sprue cutters
  • Files or sanding sticks
  • Brushes and/or airbrush
  • Plastic cement
  • Paints in late WWII IJN color schemes
  • Optional cyanoacrylate glue for fine details

About the Aichi B7A2 Ryusei:

The Aichi B7A Ryusei (meaning “Shooting Star”), codenamed Grace by the Allies, was designed as a carrier-based attack and torpedo bomber. Powered by the Nakajima Homare 18 radial engine producing over 1800 hp, it could reach speeds of 565 km/h and carry either bombs or a heavy torpedo. Despite its folding wings and advanced features, it was introduced too late in 1944 and mostly operated from land bases. The Ryusei remains one of the finest Japanese carrier aircraft designs of the war, though produced in limited numbers.

Technical data of the original:

  • Manufacturer: Aichi Kokuki (Japan)
  • Crew: 2
  • Engine: Nakajima NK9C Homare 18, 1825 hp
  • Maximum speed: approx. 565 km/h
  • Range: approx. 1800 km
  • Armament: 2 × 20 mm cannons, up to 800 kg bombs or one 800 kg torpedo
  • Service years: 1944–1945
