About the IJN Akagi:

IJN Akagi was one of the most important Japanese aircraft carriers of World War II and served as the flagship of the Kidō Butai strike force during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Originally planned as a battlecruiser, the ship was later converted into an aircraft carrier under naval treaty limitations. Akagi played a central role in Japan’s early Pacific victories and participated in numerous offensive operations. In June 1942, the carrier was heavily damaged during the Battle of Midway and later scuttled by Japanese forces after uncontrollable fires caused by American air attacks. Akagi remains one of the most recognizable aircraft carriers in naval history.
