The IAR 80B was an improved version of the Romanian-built IAR 80 fighter, produced by Industria Aeronautică Română in Brașov during World War II. Serving as the backbone of the Royal Romanian Air Force (ARR) between 1941 and 1943, these aircraft took part in intense combat on the Eastern Front, including the Battle of Stalingrad. The 80B variant featured additional armour, strengthened wings and improved armament for ground attack and escort missions.

About the IAR 80B fighter:

The IAR 80B was developed from the IAR 80A with a more powerful IAR K14-1000A engine (1,025 hp), increased protection for the pilot and enhanced armament of six 7.92 mm machine guns. The aircraft served both as a fighter and light attack aircraft, capable of carrying two 50 kg bombs. Romanian pilots flying IAR 80Bs over Stalingrad earned numerous aerial victories while providing escort for German bombers and ground support missions. Despite being outclassed by newer Soviet designs, the IAR 80B remained an effective and robust aircraft in experienced hands.
