ICM 48365 - 1:48 Black Hawk MEDEVAC with Crew and Combat Medics

ICM 48365 is a kit for self-assembly representing the American UH-60A Black Hawk multi-role helicopter in the medical-evacuation (MEDEVAC) role. The set is supplemented with crew and combat-medic figures, allowing a scene of the medical team at work alongside the aircraft to be recreated.

In the MEDEVAC role the helicopter is adapted to transport casualties, provide medical care in flight and carry medical personnel. The interior can be fitted with a rotating, horizontal stretcher-support system that accommodates four to six casualties. The combat medics on board are responsible for delivering immediate care and for the rapid, safe evacuation of the wounded.

Assembly:

This is a substantial kit with a large number of parts, a detailed interior and figures, so it is best suited to modellers with some experience. The interior and cockpit are best painted before the fuselage is closed, as access to these parts is very limited once it is glued together. The clear cabin glazing also calls for care during assembly.

Helicopters of this type were most often painted in a single dark olive service shade; the instructions provide paint suggestions. The figures are best painted separately, and the model finished with a matt or satin varnish, with the detail emphasised using a wash. About the helicopter – Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk:

The UH-60 Black Hawk is one of the most widely used multi-role helicopters in the world. It originated in the UTTAS programme launched in the late 1960s, which sought a new-generation twin-engine transport helicopter. In 1976 Sikorsky was selected as the winner of the competition, and the aircraft entered service as the UH-60A (factory designation S-70).

The design was conceived to survive demanding battlefield conditions, with a reinforced crew cabin and systems for warning of and countering threats. Thanks to its modular design, the Black Hawk can fill many roles: transport, rescue, medical, special operations and others.

In the medical version the helicopter became an important link in casualty evacuation, combining rapid transport with the ability to provide care while still in flight. Aircraft of this type remain in service in many countries around the world.
