Analog or digital control – what to choose?

Digital control systems offer the ability to operate multiple locomotives independently on the same track. Analog systems apply voltage to the entire layout, causing all trains on the same circuit to move simultaneously. In contrast, digital systems keep track voltage constant and send specific commands to each locomotive, enabling more realistic and flexible operation.

About the EP09 locomotive:

The EP09 is a Polish electric passenger locomotive designed in the late 1980s for high-speed intercity traffic up to 160 km/h. Built by H. Cegielski in Poznań between 1986 and 1997, a total of 47 units were produced. These locomotives became a staple of fast passenger service across major national routes such as Warsaw–Kraków, Warsaw–Wrocław, and Warsaw–Gdynia.

Unit number 015 is one of the more recognized locomotives of the series, having hauled numerous express and InterCity trains over the years. EP09 units are known for their robust design, fast acceleration, and compatibility with 1500 V heating systems used in modern passenger coaches. In the 1990s and early 2000s, they were among the most advanced electric locomotives in Poland.

Today, several EP09s have been modernized, but some – including EP09-015 – retain their original 1990s PKP livery, making them important icons of Polish railway heritage and a nostalgic favorite for railfans and modelers alike.
