Revell 03368 recreates the Leopard 2A4 — the most widespread and recognisable variant of the German Leopard 2 main battle tank. This release is distinctive thanks to a special commemorative decoration prepared for the 40th anniversary of the Leopard 2 family, reproduced on an extensive decal sheet.

The kit lets you build the vehicle as a 2A4 or as the Dutch 2A4NL (5th production series), with the appropriate smoke grenade launchers. The anti-slip surface texture on the armour is finely reproduced. The turret rotates once assembled and the hatches can be fitted open or closed.

Building the model:

With a moderate parts count and convenient vinyl tracks, the model is approachable for modellers with some experience. The base for the anniversary decoration is a uniform vehicle colour — shades of tank green (e.g. bronze green) work well, set off by brown and black details; the commemorative effect, however, comes primarily from the decals. It is worth applying them over a gloss coat to avoid decal silvering, and finishing the model with a matt varnish typical of military vehicles.

About the vehicle – Leopard 2A4:

The Leopard 2 is a German main battle tank introduced into service in 1979 and still regarded as one of the leading armoured designs in the world. The 2A4 version was produced between 1985 and 1992 in several batches, each introducing improvements — including a digital fire-control system and reinforced hull and turret armour. It was the 2A4 that became the greatest export success of the Leopard 2 family.

The tank entered service with the armed forces of many countries, including Germany, the Netherlands (the 2A4NL variant), Austria, Spain, Poland and Greece. The Leopard 2A4 combines the firepower of a 120 mm smoothbore gun, a modern fire-control system and composite armour, and remains a benchmark for many NATO armies.
