Description

Photo-etched parts set for the Nismo R34 GT-R Z-tune model (Tamiya 24282) in 1:24 scale

Tamiya 12604 is a detail-up set, not a model kit. It was designed for the Tamiya Nismo R34 GT-R Z-tune (24282) in 1:24 scale and contains photo-etched parts that replace body and interior details which cannot be faithfully reproduced in injection-moulded plastic.

The thin metal parts give realistic thickness to meshes, brake discs and pedals, while the metal exhaust tip provides a genuinely open, crisply finished tailpipe. The base model is sold separately - this box contains the accessory parts only.

What's in the box:

  • Photo-etched parts: brake discs
  • Photo-etched parts: intercooler
  • Photo-etched parts: grille meshes
  • Photo-etched parts: logo stencil
  • Photo-etched parts: differential oil cooler
  • Photo-etched parts: pedals
  • Photo-etched parts: licence plates
  • Metal exhaust tip
  • Floor mat markings

Photo-etched parts - fine, delicate detailing components

Photo-etched parts are chemically etched from thin metal sheet, which gives them a thickness that injection moulding cannot match. Thickness is exactly what betrays plastic car models: moulded grille meshes, brake discs and pedals always look too heavy compared with the real car.

The parts are cut from the fret with a sharp knife or fine cutters, and the remaining tabs can be smoothed with a file. Cyanoacrylate glue works well for bonding metal to plastic, and before painting we suggest degreasing the parts and using a primer intended for metal. Parts that need bending are easiest to shape over a steel edge or in a photo-etch bending tool.

About the car - Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 Z-tune:

The Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 Z-tune is a limited edition built in 2005 by Nismo, Nissan's in-house motorsport division. It was based on factory R34 V-spec II bodies, which were then extensively reworked.

At its heart remained the RB26DETT straight-six, bored out to 2.8 litres and tuned to around 500 hp. Only 19 examples of the Z-tune were completed, making it one of the rarest members of the Skyline GT-R family.

Original vehicle specifications (Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 Z-tune):

  • Year: 2005
  • Built by: Nismo, based on factory R34 V-spec II bodies
  • Engine: RB26DETT bored out to 2.8 l
  • Power: approx. 500 hp
  • Production: 19 examples

About the manufacturer - Tamiya:

Tamiya is a Japanese company based in Shizuoka, active in the modelling industry since 1946. Alongside its plastic kits it offers detail-up accessories for its own models: turned metal barrels, photo-etched frets, detail sets and display stands. These accessories are designed for specific Tamiya kit numbers, so they fit without modification. The range is completed by Tamiya paints, glues and modelling tools.
