Tamiya 12623 is a detail-up set for the Tamiya Nissan GT-R (24300) in 1:24 scale. Instead of moulded plastic meshes, discs and small interior details, the modeller gets their counterparts etched from thin metal sheet - at a thickness injection moulding cannot achieve.

The set covers both exterior details (air intake meshes, brake discs, fuel filler cap, licence plates) and cabin parts: the accelerator pedal, brake pedal, footrest and the steering column paddle shifters. The base model is sold separately - this box contains the accessory parts only.

Photo-etched parts - fine, delicate detailing components

Photo-etched parts are chemically etched from thin metal sheet. On car models they pay off wherever the real car has something thin and open-worked: a moulded grille mesh will always be too thick, while an etched brake disc can reproduce the drilling and slotting visible through the wheel spokes.

The parts are cut from the fret with a sharp knife or fine cutters, and the remaining tabs are smoothed with a file. Cyanoacrylate glue works well for bonding metal to plastic. Before painting we suggest degreasing the parts and using a primer intended for metal, which gives the paint a proper key on the smooth, non-absorbent surface.

The R35-series Nissan GT-R, in production since 2007, is the direct successor to the Skyline GT-R line, although it was the first to drop the Skyline name. It is a supercar built around four-wheel drive and a dual-clutch transmission.

Power comes from the VR38DETT - a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6, hand-assembled by specialist technicians. Combined with all-wheel drive and near-instant gear changes, it delivers performance from the very top shelf.
