The smaller the part, the finer the weave needs to be — otherwise carbon starts to look like a print rather than a material. Tamiya 12682 is a universal waterslide decal sheet reproducing a twill weave in an extra fine pattern size, intended precisely for small surfaces and smaller scales.

The 130 x 190 mm sheet has no pre-printed shapes — you cut it to any size and outline yourself. Tamiya indicates it is suitable for static models in scales from 1:6 to 1:24: cars and motorcycles, including spoilers, winglets and body panels.

Carbon pattern decals — a carbon look without difficult painting

Carbon pattern decals are waterslide decals reproducing the weave of carbon fibre. They recreate the appearance of carbon parts — bonnets, roofs, spoilers, interior panels — without difficult painting and masking.

A twill weave gives the characteristic diagonal herringbone found most often on real carbon components. The extra fine version is the finest weave in this family of sheets and works especially well in smaller scales and on small parts, where an oversized pattern would throw off the proportions.

The decals are applied to a smooth, glossy surface. Good practice is to prepare the area with gloss clear, cut a slightly oversized piece from the sheet, apply it and work it into the shape of the part; on curved surfaces a decal softener (for example Mark Fit) is helpful. Once dry, seal the area with clear coat.
