Description

Tamiya 35028 Brick Wall Set for 1:35 dioramas

A stretch of brick wall instantly turns an open base into a specific place: a yard, an alley, a ruined factory. The Tamiya 35028 set contains 22 brick wall parts in 1:35 scale that can be arranged in any combination.

The set includes straight sections 55 mm long and triangular sections representing a sloped end and a breach in the wall. Each type comes in three different patterns, so the finished wall does not look repetitive. In addition, the box card carries a printed 1:35 brick wall – it can be cut out and used as a diorama backdrop. The parts come from 1973 tooling.

What is in the box:

  • 22 plastic brick wall parts
  • Straight sections 55 mm long – in three patterns
  • Triangular sections (sloped end, breach) – in three patterns
  • A 1:35 brick wall printed on the box card, to be cut out as a backdrop

Kit specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Item number: 35028
  • Manufacturer: Tamiya
  • Type: diorama accessories
  • Tooling: 1973

Assembly and painting required

The parts have to be removed from the sprues, cleaned up, assembled and painted. Cement, paints and modelling tools are not included in the set and must be obtained separately.

Use in a diorama:

  • A building wall or a boundary wall closing the scene at the back
  • A shelled ruin – the breach and sloped sections create a natural break in the wall
  • Cover for infantry figures in an urban combat scene
  • A yard, alley or passage with a vehicle manoeuvring through it
  • A backdrop – the brick wall cut from the box card placed behind the diorama
  • Combined with sandbags in the breaches and windows to emphasise a defensive position

Tools you will need:

  • Sprue cutters
  • Hobby knife and files or sandpaper to clean up edges and fit the sections together
  • Polystyrene cement
  • Model paints, brushes or an airbrush; washes and pigments work well on brickwork
  • Precision modelling tweezers

Brick walls in a battlefield setting:

Brick was the basic building material of European towns and villages in the first half of the twentieth century – tenement houses, factory halls, boundary walls and farm buildings were all built from it. That is why brick walls form the background of most photographs from the fighting in Normandy, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany.

In a diorama a wall plays a double role: it is scenery, and at the same time it tells the story of the action. An even, undamaged wall suggests a quiet sector or a column on the march; a shell breach and scattered rubble suggest a direct engagement. The triangular sections in this set make it easy to reproduce a damaged wall without cutting and sanding the edges yourself. It is worth remembering that brickwork is rarely uniform in colour – varying the shade of individual bricks and adding a subtle wash in the mortar lines gives a realistic result.

About the manufacturer – Tamiya:

Tamiya is a Japanese company based in Shizuoka, active since 1946 – first as a timber business and, from the 1960s, as a manufacturer of plastic scale models. The brand built its reputation on precise tooling, good parts fit and clear instructions, which is why its kits are chosen by beginners and experienced modellers alike.

The 1:35 Military Miniature Series, to which this set belongs, covers military vehicles, figures and diorama accessories. A shared scale and consistent style make it easy to combine parts from different Tamiya sets in one scene, and classic diorama accessories have been basic modelling equipment for decades.
