Description

Tamiya turned brass 75 mm projectiles for Panther Ausf.G kits (35170 and 35176) in 1:35 scale

Tamiya 35173 is a set of turned brass projectiles and shell cases representing the ammunition of the 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70, the main armament of the Panther. The box contains 12 projectiles — 4 armour-piercing PzGr. 39/42, 4 tungsten-cored PzGr. 40/42 and 4 high-explosive SprGr. 42 — together with 5 empty shell cases.

The set is intended for the Tamiya Panther Ausf.G kits (35170 and 35176). It does not include a metal barrel — projectiles and cases only. The base kit is not included and is purchased separately.

Turned brass projectiles – crisp detail with no mould parting line

Lathe-turned parts have sharp, symmetrical edges and a perfectly round cross-section, with none of the parting line that always has to be sanded away on moulded plastic. On ammunition, seen close up on a model, the difference is easy to spot — especially as the three KwK 42 rounds have distinctly different nose shapes.

Projectiles and cases are a classic ingredient of ammunition-loading scenes and dioramas: laid out on the armour, protruding from an open hatch or held by a loader figure. A primer intended for metal is recommended before painting. Brass cases can also be left in bare metal and simply toned down with a wash.

About the vehicle – Pz.Kpfw. V Panther Ausf.G:

The Panther was the German answer to the Soviet T-34. Its 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70, with a very long barrel and high muzzle velocity, out-penetrated many larger-calibre guns — PzGr. 39/42 armour-piercing rounds could defeat Allied tanks at normal combat ranges, while the scarce tungsten-cored PzGr. 40/42 performed even better at shorter distances.

The Ausf.G, produced from March 1944, was the most numerous version of the Panther. The hull was simplified, the driver hatch in the glacis was deleted and the hull sides were given a greater slope; early and late vehicles differ in details introduced during production.

Panthers fought on every European front — from Ukraine through Normandy to the Ardennes and the defence of the Reich — and remain among the most frequently modelled tanks of the war.

Original vehicle specifications (Panther Ausf.G):

About the manufacturer – Tamiya:

Tamiya is a Japanese manufacturer of models and modelling accessories based in Shizuoka, active since 1946 and producing plastic kits since the early 1960s. The 1:35 Military Miniature Series is one of the pillars of its catalogue. Alongside the kits themselves, Tamiya offers paints, cements, tools and upgrade accessories such as photo-etched parts, turned brass projectiles and individual track links. These accessories are designed around specific kits from the company catalogue, so the fit is predictable and the instructions are clear. Careful parts fit and well-prepared documentation remain the hallmarks of the brand.
