Description

Tamiya turned brass 75 mm projectiles for Panzer IV kits in 1:35 scale

Tamiya 35182 is a set of turned brass projectiles and shell cases representing the ammunition of the 7.5 cm KwK 40 — the long-barrelled gun in its L/43 and L/48 versions, fitted to the Panzer IV from 1942. The box contains 18 parts: 6 PzGr. 39 armour-piercing projectiles, 6 SprGr. 34 high-explosive projectiles and 6 shell cases.

The set is intended for Tamiya Panzer IV kits, including 35181. It does not include a metal barrel — projectiles and cases only. The base kit is not included and is purchased separately.

Turned brass projectiles – crisp detail with no mould parting line

Lathe-turned parts have sharp, symmetrical edges and a perfectly round cross-section, with none of the parting line that has to be cleaned off moulded plastic by hand. On ammunition, seen close up on a model, the difference is clearly visible.

Projectiles and cases are a classic ingredient of ammunition-loading scenes and dioramas: laid out on the armour, protruding from an open hatch, stacked in a crate beside the vehicle or held by a loader figure. A primer intended for metal is recommended before painting; brass cases can also be left in bare metal and simply toned down with a wash.

About the vehicle – Pz.Kpfw. IV:

The Panzer IV was the backbone of the German armoured force and the only German tank in continuous production throughout the Second World War. It was originally conceived as a support vehicle with the short 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 gun, but the encounter with the Soviet T-34 forced a fundamental change of concept.

From 1942 the tank received the long-barrelled 7.5 cm KwK 40 — first in L/43 and then in L/48 form — which allowed it to engage enemy tanks effectively at normal combat ranges. PzGr. 39 armour-piercing rounds with a ballistic cap could defeat the T-34, while SprGr. 34 high-explosive rounds were used against infantry and fortifications. Later versions received thicker armour, side skirts and simplified construction details.

The Panzer IV fought on every front — from North Africa through the Eastern Front to Normandy and the Ardennes. Around 8,500 examples of all versions were built, and the chassis also served as the basis for numerous assault guns and tank destroyers.
