Turned brass projectiles – crisp detail with no mould parting line

Lathe-turned parts have sharp, symmetrical edges and a perfectly round cross-section, without the mould parting line typical of injection-moulded plastic. Since ammunition on a model is normally on display rather than hidden away, that difference is easy to see up close.

Projectiles and cases are a classic ingredient of ammunition-loading scenes and dioramas: laid out on the armour, protruding from a hatch, stacked in a crate beside the vehicle or held by a loader figure. A primer intended for metal is recommended before painting. Brass cases also look convincing left in bare metal and merely toned down with a wash.

About the vehicle – M4 Sherman:

The M4 Sherman was the standard American medium tank of the Second World War, also used by British, Polish and French forces and supplied to the Soviet Union under Lend-Lease. Its strength lay not in record-breaking figures but in reliability, ease of maintenance and sheer numbers — close to 50,000 examples of all versions were built.

The 75 mm M3 gun was well suited to infantry support and field targets: the M48 high-explosive round was the most commonly used ammunition, while the M61 armour-piercing round could deal with enemy medium tanks at normal combat ranges. Against Panthers and Tigers, however, it proved inadequate, which led to the 76 mm gun and to the British Firefly with its 17-pounder.

Shermans fought in North Africa, Italy, Normandy, the Ardennes and the Pacific. Early production vehicles had a welded hull, VVSS suspension and narrow tracks — a silhouette that became one of the symbols of the Allied war effort.
