Description

Photo-etched engine-deck grille set for the Tiger I (early) model in 1:35 scale

Tamiya 35217 is a detail set containing photo-etched metal engine-deck grilles for the early-version Tiger I tank model (Tamiya 35216). The thin photo-etched metal reproduces the openwork air-intake and outlet grilles far more faithfully than plastic parts, raising the realism of the finished model.

What's in the box:

  • Photo-etched metal engine-deck grilles
  • Parts matched to the Tiger I early model (Tamiya 35216)
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Item number: 35217
  • Manufacturer: Tamiya
  • Type: detail set (photo-etched)

Note: glue, paints and modelling tools are not included. The set is intended for self-assembly and painting.

Building the model:

The photo-etched parts are cut carefully from the fret and fixed with cyanoacrylate (CA) glue. If needed, the grilles can be gently bent to the shape of the deck. It is worth priming the metal parts before painting so the paint adheres well.

Tools you'll need:

  • Scissors or a sharp knife to cut the photo-etched parts from the fret
  • Tweezers and (optionally) a photo-etch bending tool
  • Cyanoacrylate (CA) glue for bonding metal to plastic
  • A file and fine sandpaper to clean up the edges
  • Metal primer plus modelling paints and a wash to finish

About the set – photo-etched engine-deck grilles:

Tank engine decks were protected by openwork metal grilles covering the air intakes and outlets. At model scale these are best reproduced by thin photo-etched parts – far finer than plastic. The set raises the realism of the Tiger I early model (Tamiya 35216).

About the manufacturer – Tamiya:

Tamiya Corporation is a Japanese model company founded in 1946 in Shizuoka, regarded as the heart of Japan's model-making industry. It launched its first injection-moulded plastic kit in 1960 and soon set a global benchmark for quality thanks to precise tooling and excellent parts fit. The 1:35 Military Miniature series is one of the most highly regarded military model lines in the world. Beyond plastic kits in many scales, the company offers a full range of accessories: paints, glues, tools and brushes. Tamiya operates in dozens of countries and remains one of the most recognisable brands in the hobby.
