Paintbrush is one of the most basic tools in model maker's workshop. Depending on its shape, size and bristle type it can be used for painting, applying weathering products, pigments and even glue and various putties.

Brushes can be divided by the bristle shape inti:

round brushes - for general use, suitable for painting base colours, details, precise application of washes and other effects etc.

flat brushes - great for quick painting of larger surfaces, drybrushing and making weathering effects on model kits.

To keep our brush in the best condition for the mongest possible time we have to maintain them properly. After use, they have to be thoroughly cleaned by soaking them in cleaner or thinner appropriate for used paints (water, odourless thinner etc.) and gently wiping them in circular motion in a clean paper towel. Afterwards we have to form the tip again with our fingers, while the bristles are still moist. Then we leave the brush to dry, preferably hung with ferrule pointing downwards. For this, a special stand for cleaning the brushes.

For the best effect and keeping our brushes like new we can also use a special soap for cleaning the brushes.

Brush's bristles can lose their shape and properties with time. In case of natural brushes it is possible to restore them to a good condition using special brush restoration compounds. Synthetic brushes are harder to restore and in most cases cannot be saved. Most important thing to remember is to never let the paint or other substance to dry out on the brush bristles!

Army Painter is a Danish manufacturer of paints and painting accessories for miniatures - mainly for wargames and board games.

Founded in 2007, from the beginning the aim of the company was to provide an easy and efficient way of painting miniatures to a reasonable standard thus giving players more time for gaming itself. Result of this approach are high quality lines of hobby colour primers, washes and acrylic paints complemented by the same quality paint brushes and hobby tools. Their “quickshade” products gained a good reputation among the wargamers and modellers alike, becoming one of the most popular such products. Additional feature of Army Painter products is a clear and intuitive way of naming paint colours and brush sizes which greatly facilitates the process of choosing the right tool for the job. Very good price to quality ratio and a suitability for both model making and wargaming use are the main reasons to check out this company’s products.
