Description

1:72 scale plastic model of the M-8-24 rocket launcher with two full sets of missiles

The Unimodels UM-MT 711-1 kit represents the Soviet M-8-24 multiple rocket launcher in 1:72 scale, offered in an extended edition with two complete sets of assembled rockets. One set is produced using high-quality 3D printing, while the second is provided in a classic plastic and metal configuration. This makes the kit perfect for building a fully loaded launcher and for adding extra rockets as separate details on a diorama.

Kit contents:

  • Plastic parts to build the M-8-24 launcher (2 sprues)
  • Large photo-etched fret for fine structural details
  • Three 3D-printed plates with 24 M-8 rockets
  • Additional full set of rockets in classic plastic and metal form
  • Detailed frame and support elements for the launcher
  • Decal sheet with Soviet markings
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:72
  • Approximate dimensions of the finished launcher: about 3.5 × 3.3 cm
  • Materials: plastic, photo-etched parts, 3D-printed elements and metal details
  • Manufacturer: Unimodels (UM / UM-MT)
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: Glue, paints and tools are not included.

Assembly and modelling notes:

Assembly requires careful handling of thin photo-etched parts and precise positioning of the M-8 rockets on the launcher rails. The two complete sets of missiles allow you to display the launcher fully loaded and still have spare rockets to place nearby as ammunition stock. Due to the presence of 3D-printed and metal parts, the kit is best suited for modelers experienced with fine detailing and mixed media.

Required tools:

  • Hobby knife or sprue cutters for removing parts
  • Files or fine sandpaper for cleaning and fitting components
  • Tweezers for handling photo-etched and small rocket parts
  • Detail brushes or an airbrush for painting
  • Plastic cement for injection-moulded parts
  • Cyanoacrylate glue for photo-etched, metal and 3D-printed components
  • Acrylic or enamel paints in colours typical for Soviet WWII field artillery

About the M-8-24 rocket launcher:

The M-8-24 was a light multiple rocket launcher of the “Katyusha” family, designed to fire 24 unguided 82 mm M-8 rockets. The launcher frame with 24 rails could be mounted on various truck chassis or towed platforms, providing highly mobile fire support for Red Army units. A full rocket salvo delivered a powerful area-saturation effect against enemy infantry, artillery positions, vehicle columns and fortified strongpoints.

Technical data of the real system:

  • Rocket type: M-8 (82 mm)
  • Number of rails: 24
  • Weapon type: unguided field rocket system for fire support
  • Primary role: artillery support for ground forces
