This set contains 12 turned metal 127 mm Type 89 anti-aircraft gun barrels in the long version, intended for models of Japanese ships in 1:350 scale. The turned barrels replace the plastic parts of the base model.

The ship model is not part of the set and must be obtained separately. Note that this is the long variant – the short version of the Type 89 barrels is available separately (1:350L-03).

Turned metal barrels – a quick model upgrade

Replacing the kit's plastic barrels with turned metal ones is one of the easiest ways to raise the realism of a ship model. Turned barrels offer more accurate dimensions, smoother walls and sharper muzzles than injection-moulded parts.

Cyanoacrylate (super) glue works best for fixing the barrels in place. It is worth considering priming and painting the barrels beforehand so they match the colour of the rest of the armament.

The 127 mm Type 89 gun was the standard dual-purpose anti-aircraft gun of the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Second World War. It was mounted in twin positions on battleships, aircraft carriers and cruisers.

It formed the backbone of the anti-aircraft defence of large Japanese ships. The characteristic long barrels of this gun are a visible element of the secondary armament of Imperial fleet vessels.
