Drybrushing or dry brush technique has been used by modelers for decades.

With it, we try to emphasize the three-dimensional appearance of various textures and details of our models. Because of its simplicity and speed of application, it was used in the film industry to paint sets and models. For many years, it was the most widely used technique by modelers around the world. Although other new weathering techniques eventually emerged, drybrushing is still widely used in dioramas and earthworks, buildings, science fiction and war games, fantasy, figurines and military vehicles. It's a versatile and easy-to-use technique that produces convincing volume effects, authentic textures and highlighted details on any model.

The technique involves using a brush of any size with which to scoop a small amount of paint, then rubbing the brush on a paper towel or piece of cloth until the brush leaves minimal marks then gently rubbing the edges and protruding details of the model. Using a lighter-than-basic color will brighten and highlight these elements, which creates an impression of realism and spatiality. It can also be used with metallic paints or shades of brown to create realistic rubbing and upholstery. In figure painting, with the right choice of colors, you can achieve the right shading for the entire miniature.
