Entering service in the late 1930s, the P-36A was one of the first all-metal monoplane fighters of the US Army Air Corps. The Curtiss P-36A Hawk was an American single-seat fighter aircraft developed in the mid-1930s by Curtiss-Wright. It was among the first low-wing monoplane fighters with an all-metal structure to enter service with the US Army Air Corps. While quickly overshadowed by more advanced aircraft like the P-40 and P-39, the P-36A represented a major leap forward compared to the biplane fighters of the early 1930s. It served primarily in training and front-line units around the transition period from the 1930s into the early years of WWII.
