Description

Copper State Models B32003 - Vickers-Clyno Mark IV 1915 motorcycle-sidecar with machine gun, 3D-printed kit in 1:32

Copper State Models is a 3D-printed self-assembly model of the British Vickers-Clyno Mark IV motorcycle outfit of 1915 in 1:32 scale - a motorcycle with a sidecar adapted to carry and serve a Vickers machine gun. Outfits of this kind gave the British infantry mobile firepower during the First World War.

The model reproduces the characteristic layout of the motorcycle with its sidecar and machine-gun position. The small 3D-printed parts achieve detail unobtainable in classic injection moulding.

What's in the box:

  • 3D-printed parts - motorcycle with sidecar and Vickers machine gun
  • Cartograf decals for two marking options
  • Illustrated assembly instructions with a painting scheme

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:32
  • Catalogue number: B32003
  • Manufacturer: Copper State Models
  • Material: 3D print (resin)
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: the kit does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Building the model:

The model requires careful separation of the small parts from the print plates and cleaning of any print-support marks. The resin parts are joined with cyanoacrylate glue. Because of the delicacy of the parts we recommend it to intermediate modellers, although the straightforward construction is achievable by careful beginners too.

For painting the outfit, colours typical of British military vehicles of the First World War are recommended - khaki or military green, with metallic accents on the Vickers machine gun and drive components, and brown on the leather parts. The included Cartograf decals allow two marking options to be reproduced.

Required tools:

  • Hobby knife or scalpel and nippers to separate the parts from the print plates
  • Files and sandpaper to clean off print-support marks
  • Cyanoacrylate glue (for resin / 3D-printed parts)
  • Brushes of various sizes or an airbrush
  • Modelling paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • A wash to pick out the detail
  • Optional: pigments for a dust or mud effect

About the vehicle - Vickers-Clyno Mark IV:

The Clyno company of Wolverhampton supplied the British Army with large numbers of motorcycles during the First World War. Most were sidecar outfits adapted to carry and serve a Vickers machine gun - together with ammunition, water for cooling the gun, spares for the gun, and fuel and spares for the motorcycle.

A single outfit usually operated in a team of three: one carried the gun, another extra ammunition, and a third a spare gun, ready for use if the first motorcycle broke down. This gave the infantry fast, mobile firepower. At the Armistice on 11 November 1918, the British armed forces had 1,792 Clyno motorcycles.

Original specifications (Vickers-Clyno Mark IV):

  • Type: military motorcycle with sidecar (machine-gun position)
  • Manufacturer: Clyno (United Kingdom)
  • Armament: Vickers machine gun
  • Service period: First World War
  • As of 11 November 1918: 1,792 Clyno motorcycles in British service (1,150 at home, 642 overseas, including 478 in France)
