Description

1:32 scale plastic figure set of German WWII mechanics

Das Werk DW32101 is a set of figures for self-assembly and painting, depicting German aircraft mechanics from the Second World War. The figures are posed in maintenance-related attitudes – perfect for scenes showing an aircraft being prepared for flight, inspected or repaired at a field airbase.

The figures were designed primarily as a complement to Das Werk's 1:32 aircraft kits, so they sit naturally alongside their proportions and character. They also work well with other aircraft and dioramas in the same scale, adding a human dimension and a story to the scene.

What's in the box:

  • Plastic parts for 3 figures
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Kit specifications:

  • Scale: 1:32
  • Catalogue number: DW32101
  • Manufacturer: Das Werk
  • Number of figures: 3
  • Skill level: intermediate (figure painting)

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The figures are intended for self-assembly and painting.

Building the model:

Assembling the figures is straightforward, and the key to an effective result lies in the painting. We recommend brush painting with highlights and shadows to bring out the folds of the clothing and the faces. German ground-crew working dress is typically in grey-blue and black working tones; details can be emphasised with a wash and raised areas with dry-brushing.

Tools you will need:

  • Modelling side cutters for removing parts from the sprues
  • Hobby knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper for smoothing sprue-gate marks
  • Plastic cement
  • Brushes of various sizes (including fine ones for facial details)
  • Modelling paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • A wash to bring out folds and details

About the set – German ground crew:

Ground crew were an invisible yet essential part of WWII air operations. It was the mechanics who kept the aircraft combat-ready – refuelling and rearming them, servicing engines and carrying out repairs between sorties. Scenes with mechanics around an aircraft give a diorama authenticity and show the everyday, "ground-level" side of the air war.

Figures in working poses let you build such a story around an aircraft model – beside open engine cowlings, ladders or equipment trolleys. It is a popular way to give a static aircraft both context and scale.

About the manufacturer – Das Werk:

The company focuses on modern, well-fitting tooling and approachable assembly, and steadily expands its range with accessories and figures to complement larger models.
