About the aircraft – Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9:

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9, nicknamed 'Dora' or 'Langnase' (long nose), is one of the most successful German variants of the Fw 190 fighter from the late war period. The radial engine was replaced by a liquid-cooled inline Junkers Jumo 213A with an elongated cowling and annular radiator, improving high-altitude performance.

The D-9 entered service in 1944 and was used against Allied bombers and to protect Me 262 jets during the vulnerable take-off and landing phases.

Original specifications (Fw 190D-9):

  • Length: approx. 10.2 m
  • Wingspan: approx. 10.5 m
  • Powerplant: Junkers Jumo 213A inline engine, approx. 1,750 hp (up to approx. 2,100 hp with MW 50 boost)
  • Maximum speed: approx. 685 km/h
  • Armament: 2 x MG 131 13 mm machine guns and 2 x MG 151/20 20 mm cannons
