About the A6M5 Zero Type 52a:

The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was the mainstay fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. The A6M5 Type 52a, introduced in 1943, featured shortened and strengthened wings with fixed wingtips and improved armament – two 20 mm cannons and two 13.2 mm machine guns. While it retained excellent maneuverability, it faced increasingly advanced Allied opponents such as the F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair. The Zero Type 52a played a crucial role in air battles over the Pacific in 1943–1944.

Technical data of the original aircraft:

  • Wingspan: 11.0 m
  • Length: 9.12 m
  • Engine: Nakajima Sakae 21, 1130 hp
  • Maximum speed: approx. 565 km/h
  • Armament: 2 × 20 mm cannons, 2 × 13.2 mm machine guns
  • Crew: 1 pilot
