Eduard EX1005 mask set – canopy painting masks for the Ki-21-I model (ICM) in 1:48 scale

Eduard EX1005 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the Ki-21-I model from ICM. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included. The TFace version includes masks for both the exterior and interior of the glazing.

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Mitsubishi Ki-21-I:

The Mitsubishi Ki-21 was a Japanese twin-engined medium bomber of the Imperial Army from the late 1930s. It was an all-metal low-wing monoplane with retractable undercarriage, powered by radial engines. The design emphasised range and performance at the expense of armour and defensive armament, typical of early Japanese combat aircraft. The Allies gave it the reporting name Sally.

The Ki-21 was one of the Japanese Army's main bombers in the early Pacific War and in China. The Ki-21-I was an early production version; later models received more powerful engines and strengthened defensive armament, including a dorsal position with a heavy gun. As enemy fighters improved, its weak protection and armament left it increasingly exposed to losses.
