The Eduard EX1178 is a TFace mask set tailored to the MiniArt Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 fighter model in 1:48 scale. TFace masks make it possible to mask the canopy both outside and inside, allowing the inner glazing frames to be painted separately in the cockpit interior colour and the outer frames in the camouflage colours.

The pieces are cut from yellow Kabuki masking tape suited to delicate modelling surfaces. The set is designed for airbrush painting.

Two-sided TFace masks – painting the glazing from outside and inside

TFace is the variant of Eduard masks designed to mask the canopy from both sides – outside as well as inside. This allows the inner frames of the glazing to be painted independently in the cockpit interior colour and the outer frames in the camouflage colours, giving a realistic effect of the cabin colour visible through the glass.

The set contains a complete set of outer and inner masks together with instructions showing which pieces go on which side, as well as masks for the landing-gear wheels. The masks are cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking tape. The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, dry and degreased glazing and to airbrush; the masks are intended for single use.

About the aircraft – Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9:

The Fw 190D-9, known as the "Dora" or "long-nose Dora" (Langnasen-Dora), is a development version of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter in which the radial BMW 801 engine was replaced by the liquid-cooled inline Junkers Jumo 213A. The lengthened forward fuselage and the characteristic annular radiator changed the aircraft's silhouette and markedly improved its performance at medium and high altitudes.

The D-9 entered service in the autumn of 1944 and was regarded as one of the best German piston-engined fighters of the late war. It was used both to attack Allied bombers and escort fighters and to protect Me 262 jet airfields, which were especially vulnerable during take-off and landing.

Despite its high performance, the Dora appeared too late and in too small numbers to change the course of the air war. It remains, however, one of the Luftwaffe designs most prized by modellers and aviation enthusiasts.
