Description

Eduard EX693 mask set – canopy painting masks for the FJ-2 Fury model (Kitty Hawk) in 1:48 scale

Eduard EX693 is a set of self-adhesive 1:48 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the FJ-2 Fury model from Kitty Hawk. The masks are die-cut from yellow Kabuki masking paper, giving sharp edges without hand masking with tape. The base kit is not included. The TFace version includes masks for both the exterior and interior of the glazing.

What's in the box:

  • Sheet of self-adhesive masks made of yellow Kabuki masking paper in the TFace version – separate masks for the exterior and interior of the glazing, plus wheel hub masks
  • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Catalogue number: EX693
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: FJ-2 Fury from Kitty Hawk
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks (TFace version)
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – North American FJ-2 Fury:

The North American FJ-2 Fury was an American carrier-based jet fighter, a naval counterpart of the land-based F-86 Sabre. It was developed for the Navy and Marine Corps, retaining the swept wing and general layout of the Sabre. Prototypes based on the F-86E flew in 1951, and the production FJ-2 entered service in the mid-1950s.

Compared with the F-86, the aircraft was adapted for carrier operations: strengthened landing gear, an arrestor hook, folding wings, and armament changed to four 20 mm cannon. The FJ-2 was used mainly by the US Marine Corps. It formed the basis for further development of the Fury family with more powerful engines, with over three hundred of this version built.

Original specifications (North American FJ-2 Fury):

  • Length: 11.4 m
  • Wingspan: 11.3 m
  • Height: 4.1 m
  • Takeoff weight: 8,500 kg
  • Crew: 1
  • Powerplant: General Electric J47-GE-2 turbojet, 26.7 kN thrust
  • Max speed: 1,090 km/h
  • Ceiling: 12,800 m
  • Range: 1,600 km
  • Armament: 4 x 20 mm Colt Mk 12 cannon
  • Production: 1952-1954, approx. 200 built
