Eduard JX032 is a set of self-adhesive 1:32 masks for painting the canopy framing and other glazing, and the wheel hubs, tailored to the TBF/TBM Avenger model from Trumpeter. • Mask placement instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:32
  • Catalogue number: JX032
  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: TBF/TBM Avenger from Trumpeter
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – USA:

The Grumman TBF Avenger was a carrier-based torpedo bomber of the US Navy, introduced in 1942 as a successor to the TBD Devastator. It was a large, heavy single-engine low-wing aircraft of robust construction, with an internal weapons bay and a powered dorsal gun turret. Examples built by General Motors were designated TBM.

The Avenger became the fleet's standard torpedo bomber in the Pacific, taking part in all the major naval battles of the second half of the war, including the sinking of Japanese battleships. It was also used for anti-submarine warfare and patrol duties. Nearly ten thousand were built, and postwar versions served in many nations.

Original specifications (USA):

  • Length: 12.4 m
  • Wingspan: 16.5 m
  • Height: 4.7 m
  • Max. takeoff weight: approx. 8100 kg
  • Crew: 3
  • Powerplant: Wright R-2600 Cyclone radial, approx. 1700 hp
  • Max. speed: approx. 440 km/h
  • Ceiling: approx. 9200 m
  • Range: approx. 1600 km
  • Armament: 12.7 mm machine guns (including turret), 1 x 7.62 mm, torpedo or up to approx. 900 kg of bombs
  • Production: 1942-1945, approx. 9800 built (TBF/TBM)
