Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Dewoitine D.510:

The Dewoitine D.510 is a French fighter of cantilever low-wing monoplane layout, produced by Dewoitine in the mid-1930s. It was a development of the D.500 and D.501 family and retained an all-metal, sheet-covered structure, fixed landing gear and an open cockpit. The main change over its predecessors was a more powerful Hispano-Suiza engine and a cannon firing through the propeller hub. The aircraft entered French air force service in the second half of the decade.

By the outbreak of the Second World War the design was already obsolete and front-line units were replacing it with newer fighters with enclosed cockpits and retractable gear. The D.510 mainly served in training and auxiliary roles. Some aircraft were exported, including to China and Turkey. The D.510 differed from the earlier D.500 chiefly in its cannon armament and in the performance resulting from the more powerful engine.

Original specifications (Dewoitine D.510):

  • Length: 7.94 m
  • Wingspan: 12.09 m
  • Height: 2.42 m
  • Take-off weight: approx. 1,915 kg
  • Crew: 1
  • Powerplant: 1 x Hispano-Suiza 12Ycrs inline engine, approx. 641 kW (860 hp)
  • Maximum speed: approx. 400 km/h
  • Service ceiling: approx. 10,500 m
  • Range: approx. 700 km
  • Armament: 1 x 20 mm hub-firing cannon and 2 x 7.5 mm machine guns
  • Production: 1930s
