Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Polikarpov I-16:

The I-16 was a Soviet single-seat fighter designed by Nikolai Polikarpov and first flown in 1933. It was a cantilever low-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear and a short, barrel-shaped fuselage of mixed construction: a wooden monocoque fuselage and a metal wing structure covered with fabric. It was among the first production fighters to combine these features, giving high speed but demanding careful handling. The cockpit, initially open and later enclosed, sat in the forward fuselage.

The aircraft fought in the Spanish Civil War, at Khalkhin Gol and in the early period of the German-Soviet war, where it was already outclassed by newer fighters. Successive versions received more powerful Shvetsov M-25, M-62 and M-63 engines and heavier armament, including ShVAK cannon. More than 10,000 were built between 1934 and 1942, alongside two-seat trainer variants. The manoeuvrable but demanding aircraft was flown by, among others, Republican airmen in Spain and Chinese forces.
