Description

Plastic model kit Mitsubishi A7M1 Reppu “Sam” – Fine Molds 1:48

Fine Molds presents a 1:48 scale kit of the Mitsubishi A7M1 Reppu (“Sam”), a Japanese carrier-based fighter developed as the successor to the famous A6M Zero. First flown in 1942, the aircraft was designed to provide superior speed, range, and firepower, but development delays and engine problems limited its progress. This kit accurately recreates the unique prototype of the A7M1.

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:48
  • Wingspan: approx. 23.5 cm
  • Length: approx. 22.5 cm
  • Manufacturer: Fine Molds
  • Skill level: intermediate

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints, or modeling tools. Assembly and painting required.

Building the model:

The kit includes finely molded parts featuring the airframe, wings, landing gear, and detailed cockpit interior. Surface panel lines and prototype markings are reproduced with precision. Decals for prototype markings are included.

Required tools:

  • Modeling knife or sprue cutters
  • Files or sandpaper
  • Paintbrushes
  • Plastic glue
  • Paints: standard Imperial Japanese Navy colors of WWII

About the Mitsubishi A7M Reppu:

The Mitsubishi A7M Reppu (“Sam” in Allied code) was designed by Jiro Horikoshi as a replacement for the A6M Zero. The A7M1 prototype was powered by the Mitsubishi Ha-43 engine producing 2000 hp, but its performance was limited. Only later variants (A7M2) showed the full potential of the design, with capabilities to rival Allied fighters. However, due to wartime setbacks, only a handful of prototypes were built before the end of World War II.

Technical data of the original (A7M1):

  • Length: approx. 11.0 m
  • Wingspan: approx. 14.0 m
  • Powerplant: Mitsubishi Ha-43 engine, 2000 hp
  • Maximum speed: approx. 574 km/h
  • Armament: 2 × 7.7 mm Type 97 MG, 2 × 20 mm Type 99 cannons
