Description

Plastic model kit of IJN Battleship Yamato – Operation Ten-Go 1945

The Hasegawa SP656 (52456) kit in 1:450 scale represents the Japanese battleship IJN Yamato as she appeared during her final mission, Operation Ten-Go, in April 1945. This last sortie was a desperate attempt to counter the Allied invasion of Okinawa and ended with the destruction of the largest battleship ever built by U.S. carrier-based aircraft.

In the box you will find:

  • plastic parts to build IJN Yamato in her 1945 configuration
  • finely detailed superstructure and main armament
  • U.S. Navy carrier-based aircraft models
  • decals for ship and aircraft markings
  • clear, illustrated assembly instructions

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:450
  • Model length: approx. 58.5 cm
  • Manufacturer: Hasegawa
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints, or modeling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Due to the model’s size and level of detail, a step-by-step approach with frequent dry fitting is recommended. The included U.S. carrier-based aircraft allow modelers to create a dynamic display depicting Yamato’s final battle against overwhelming air power.

Essential tools:

  • Hobby knife or sprue cutters
  • Files and sandpaper
  • Brushes
  • Plastic cement
  • Paint set suitable for late-war IJN naval vessels
  • Optional: cyanoacrylate glue

About IJN Yamato and Operation Ten-Go:

IJN Yamato was the largest and most heavily armed battleship ever constructed, mounting 460 mm main guns. Designed for decisive surface engagements, she instead met her end in an era dominated by naval aviation. During Operation Ten-Go, Yamato sailed with insufficient air cover and was attacked repeatedly by U.S. Navy carrier aircraft, ultimately sinking with heavy loss of life. The operation marked the symbolic end of the battleship era and highlighted the supremacy of aircraft carriers.

About Hasegawa:

Hasegawa is a renowned Japanese model manufacturer, highly regarded for precise engineering, high-quality molding, and a wide range of aircraft and naval subjects. Their kits are appreciated by both experienced modelers and collectors worldwide.
