About the Heinkel He 162 Salamander:

The Heinkel He 162 Salamander was one of the first operational jet fighters used by the Luftwaffe in the final stages of World War II. Designed as a low-cost “Volksjäger”, it was intended for rapid production using non-strategic materials and to be flown by less experienced pilots.

The aircraft featured a distinctive design with a jet engine mounted on top of the fuselage and a relatively simple construction. Despite its advanced concept, limited production and the deteriorating wartime situation prevented it from having a significant combat impact.
