Description

Plastic model kit of the Myasishchev M-50 Bounder bomber in 1:144 scale

The Mikromir 144038 kit represents the Myasishchev M-50 “Bounder”, an experimental Soviet supersonic bomber designed in the 1950s. Intended as a strategic nuclear delivery platform to rival American designs such as the B-58 Hustler, the M-50 was unveiled to the world at the 1961 Tushino air show. Despite its impressive appearance, the program was canceled in favor of ICBM development, and only one prototype was built.

Kit contents:

  • injection-molded plastic parts for fuselage, wings and tail,
  • clear canopy for cockpit glazing,
  • detailed jet engine nacelles,
  • decals for the Soviet prototype,
  • assembly instructions with painting guide.

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:144
  • Model length: approx. 34 cm
  • Wingspan: approx. 16 cm
  • Manufacturer: Mikromir
  • Skill level: advanced

Note: Kit does not include glue, paints or tools.

Building the model:

The kit requires care and experience due to the large surface areas and fine details. When completed, it makes an impressive miniature of one of the Cold War’s most unusual bomber prototypes, suitable as a centerpiece of a Soviet aviation collection.

Recommended tools:

  • Hobby knife or sprue cutters
  • Files and sanding paper
  • Plastic cement
  • Brushes and/or airbrush
  • Paints in Soviet Air Force colors of the early 1960s

About the Myasishchev M-50 Bounder:

The M-50 was a Soviet attempt to build a supersonic strategic bomber capable of nuclear strike missions. Powered by four Dobrynin turbojet engines, the prototype reached speeds near Mach 1. The program was terminated as Soviet doctrine shifted toward ICBMs, but the single prototype survives today at the Central Air Force Museum in Monino.

Original aircraft specifications:

  • Length: 57.5 m
  • Wingspan: 27.4 m
  • Engines: 4 × Dobrynin RD-7 turbojets
  • Maximum speed: approx. 2,000 km/h
  • Service ceiling: 15,000 m
  • Range: approx. 6,000 km
  • Crew: 3
