About the P-47M Thunderbolt:

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the largest and most robust single-engine fighters of World War II. The P-47M variant was developed to provide significantly higher speed and performance, allowing it to intercept fast targets such as V-1 flying bombs and counter the threat of advanced German aircraft. It used an uprated radial engine and modified systems to reach speeds of more than 750 km/h. P-47M fighters were operated mainly by USAAF fighter groups over Europe in 1945, combining heavy firepower, strong survivability and good high-altitude performance.
