Eduard 11200 "Sharks & Stallions" is a collector Dual Combo in 1:48 scale dedicated to two famous American fighters that fought in the China-Burma-India (CBI) theatre during the Second World War: the Curtiss P-40N Warhawk and the North American P-51B/C Mustang. The set's title refers to the distinctive shark mouths painted on the Warhawks (a legacy of the "Flying Tigers") and to the Mustangs that gradually replaced the older P-40s in the units fighting over China.

This Limited Edition set lets you build two complete models. In addition to the Eduard plastic sprues it contains an extensive set of upgrades that raise the level of detail straight from the box: colour photo-etched parts, 3D-printed elements, painting masks and a pilot figure. The decals cover 8 marking options — four for the Mustang and four for the Warhawk — including aircraft of the 23rd, 51st, 311th and 3rd Fighter Groups operating over China and India in 1944.

Note: The kit does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Building the model:

The set is aimed at intermediate modellers. Its rich equipment — colour photo-etched parts, 3D-printed elements and fine cockpit detail — allows a high level of detail, but calls for care when assembling the delicate parts. It is worth painting and fitting the colour photo-etched and cockpit parts before joining the fuselage halves, and securing the 3D-printed and photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. The OMASK masks make painting the wheel bays cleanly much easier.

CBI-theatre aircraft were most often painted in Olive Drab over Neutral Gray, while some Mustangs remained in natural metal; the shark mouths on the Warhawks' radiator cowlings are a characteristic accent. It is recommended to apply the decals over a gloss coat (to prevent decal silvering) and then to seal everything with a satin varnish. The specific paint codes for each of the 8 options are given in the instructions.

About the aircraft – P-40N Warhawk and P-51B/C Mustang:

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was an American fighter powered by an inline Allison V-1710 engine, one of the most widely used Allied aircraft of the first half of the Second World War. The P-40N version was the final and most numerously produced variant of the family — lightened to improve performance, with better rearward visibility thanks to a redesigned canopy. Known for their ruggedness and good low- and medium-altitude handling, Warhawks fought intensively in the CBI theatre, where their shark mouths became one of the symbols of the air war over China.

The North American P-51 Mustang is one of the most famous fighters in history. The P-51B and sister P-51C were the first variants with the British Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (built under licence in the USA by Packard), which gave the aircraft outstanding high-altitude performance and great range. They featured the framed "birdcage" canopy, often replaced by the sliding Malcolm Hood.

In the CBI theatre both types served side by side in units such as the 23rd Fighter Group (heir to the "Flying Tigers"), the 51st, 311th and 3rd Fighter Groups. The P-51B/C Mustangs gradually took over long-range escort and strike duties, while the veteran Warhawks continued to serve in the fighter-bomber role.
