T-Model TK72015 is a waterslide decal sheet for marking 1:72 models of the up-armoured HMMWV M1114. Waterslide decals – markings on the model without painting

A waterslide decal is a thin printed film carried on a water-soluble backing. Once the sheet has been soaked, the print slides off the paper and is transferred onto the model, where it settles onto the surface as it dries. This makes it possible to reproduce small tactical numbers, insignia and stencilling without brush painting or masking — in 1:72 many of these markings are only a few millimetres across.

A common technique is to apply decals over a gloss coat, which prevents silvering, and then seal them with a matt varnish, since military vehicles are usually finished matt. Where a marking crosses rivets, ribs or other detail, decal softening solutions help draw the print down onto the shape of the surface. It is worth working on a clean, grease-free surface and applying the decals only once the varnish has fully dried.

About the vehicle – HMMWV M1114:

The M1114 is the armoured version of the HMMWV, or Humvee, developed by AM General and known as the Up-Armored HMMWV. It was introduced in the second half of the 1990s, with mass production following after 2003, when fighting in Iraq showed how much light transport vehicles needed genuine protection against small-arms fire and improvised explosive devices.

Unlike vehicles fitted with improvised add-on plating, the M1114 has factory-integrated hull armour, bullet-resistant glass, reinforced suspension and a more powerful 6.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine to offset the added weight. A gunner turret was fitted as standard. Combat weight is around 5.5 t, the crew numbers four, and top speed is about 110 km/h.

The vehicle was modified over the following years. Additions included the FRAG Kit 5 door and side armour, the GPK turret and the armoured rotating O-GPK turret, as well as CROWS remote weapon stations. As a result the same base vehicle appears in a number of visibly different configurations, which also widens the modelling possibilities.
