The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the most powerful fighters of World War II. The P-47N variant, developed from combat experience in Europe, was specifically designed for Pacific operations. With its enlarged wings, reinforced airframe and increased fuel capacity, it achieved a range of over 3,000 km. Powered by the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine producing up to 2,800 hp, the P-47N reached speeds of about 725 km/h and carried a heavy armament of eight .50-cal machine guns plus bombs or rockets.
