About the P-47 Thunderbolt:

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the heaviest and most powerfully armed fighters of World War II. Powered by the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine and armed with eight .50 caliber Browning machine guns, it gained a reputation for ruggedness and combat effectiveness, excelling both as a fighter and a fighter-bomber. The D-11 variant was an early production version, widely used in Europe from 1943 onwards.
