Tamiya 12608 is an accessory set, not a model kit. It contains plastic parts that replace selected components of the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 model and give it the look of a Nismo-prepared car - five-spoke wheels, a lowered stance and the distinctive body stripes.

The set is intended for two Tamiya kits in 1:24 scale: the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec R34 (24210) and the Skyline GT-R V-spec II R34 (24258). Both base models are sold separately - this box contains the accessory parts only.

Dress-up parts - a change of character without scratch-building

Dress-up sets are plastic parts intended to replace components of the base kit. They are not about micro-detailing but about restyling the whole car - different wheels, a different stance, a different exhaust and a different finish. One base kit can therefore be built as a version that differs from the boxart car.

The parts are assembled and painted like the rest of the model: cut from the sprue, clean up the gate marks and glue with plastic cement. The NISMO stripe decals are best applied over a fully cured gloss coat, which reduces the risk of decal silvering, and then sealed with a clear top coat.

About the car - Nissan Skyline GT-R R34:

The Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, built between 1999 and 2002, was the last incarnation of the classic Skyline GT-R line. Under the bonnet sat the 2.6-litre RB26DETT twin-turbocharged straight-six.

Power was sent to all four wheels through the ATTESA E-TS system, which distributed torque between the axles as needed. Sports versions and modification packages were the domain of Nismo, Nissan's in-house motorsport division.
