Description

Universal Tamiya carbon pattern decal sheet — plain weave, extra fine

Not every carbon detail can be anticipated when a kit is designed — sometimes it is a front splitter, a spoiler edge or an interior panel that no ready-made sheet covers. Tamiya 12680 answers exactly that: universal waterslide decals with a carbon fibre pattern and no pre-printed shapes, cut by the modeller to any size and outline.

The 130 x 190 mm sheet reproduces a plain weave — the regular, chequerboard structure — in an extra fine pattern size. Tamiya indicates that the sheet suits static models in scales from 1:6 to 1:24: cars and motorcycles, including spoilers, winglets and body panels.

Carbon pattern decals — a carbon look without difficult painting

Carbon pattern decals are waterslide decals reproducing the weave of carbon fibre. They give you the look of carbon parts — bonnets, roofs, spoilers, interior panels — without the painting and masking that such a fine pattern would otherwise demand.

A plain weave is a regular chequerboard, the most technical-looking of the patterns and a good match for flat, geometric surfaces. The extra fine designation refers to the size of the pattern: a finer weave works better in smaller scales and on small parts, where an oversized weave would look unconvincing.

The decals go onto a smooth, glossy surface. A sensible sequence is to prepare the area with gloss clear, cut a piece of the sheet slightly oversized, apply it and work it into the shape of the part; on curved surfaces a decal softener (for example Mark Fit) is helpful. Once dry, the area can be sealed with clear coat.

Applications — a universal sheet for any model

This sheet is not tied to any particular kit: there are no pre-cut shapes, so you cut them yourself. That makes it reusable across many projects — car and motorcycle models, conversions and scratch work, and any part not covered by a dedicated sheet.

Tamiya indicates the sheet is suitable for static models in scales from 1:6 to 1:24, where the pattern size stays believable against a real carbon weave. Typical uses include spoilers, winglets, body panels and interior details.
