Carbon body and interior parts can completely change the character of a sports coupe model. Tamiya 12659 lets you reproduce them without painting: a sheet of waterslide decals with a carbon fibre pattern, with individual parts already cut and shaped to match the surfaces of the 1:24 Toyota 86.

The set covers the bonnet, roof, boot lid, A-pillars, rear wing, side fender panels, mirrors, inner door panels and dashboard. Beyond the pre-cut parts, the sheet also carries an uncut section you can trim to any shape if you want to cover a part not on the list. The sheet measures 100 x 160 mm, and the base kit, Tamiya 24323 (Toyota 86), is sold separately.

Carbon pattern decals — a carbon look without difficult painting

Carbon pattern decals are waterslide decals reproducing the weave of carbon fibre. They deliver the look of carbon components — bonnet, roof, spoilers, mirrors or interior panels — without the complex painting that such a fine, repeating pattern would demand.

The decals are applied to a smooth, glossy surface, so it is worth laying down gloss clear beforehand and letting it cure fully. On curved surfaces a decal softener (for example Mark Fit) helps the film follow the body contours. Once dry, sealing the area with clear coat gives a uniform finish.

The uncut section adds freedom: you can cut your own shapes from it and cover parts that are not on the standard list — aftermarket detail parts or your own scratch-built additions, for instance.

The Toyota 86 (sold as the GT86 in some markets) is a two-door sports coupe developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru. It follows a classic layout — front engine, rear-wheel drive — with a boxer engine mounted low in the bay, lowering the centre of gravity and helping agility.

The car was designed around handling rather than outright power: low weight, a balanced chassis and rear-wheel drive made it a favourite among driving enthusiasts and drift competitors. Subaru sold the twin design as the BRZ.
