Description

1:35 scale plastic German jerry can set (early type)

Tamiya 35315 is an accessory set containing twelve early-type German jerry cans. The characteristic 20-litre Wehrmacht canister (Wehrmachtskanister), developed in the 1930s, quickly became a standard thanks to its well-thought-out design and triple handle, and after the war its features were adopted worldwide.

The set works perfectly as a complement to dioramas and as stowage and equipment for military vehicles. The cans can be placed loose, mounted on vehicle brackets or arranged in groups, enriching a scene with realistic detail.

What's in the box:

  • 12 early-type German jerry cans
  • Illustrated assembly instructions

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Item number: 35315
  • Manufacturer: Tamiya
  • Contents: 12 jerry cans
  • Type: accessories for dioramas and vehicle stowage

Note: This set does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The parts are intended for self-assembly and painting.

Building the set:

The jerry cans are made up of a small number of parts that fit together easily thanks to good engineering. For a realistic result, it is worth painting them in varied colours (fuel and water cans were often marked differently) and finishing them with a wash and light dry-brushing to emphasise the pressings and edges.

The finished cans can be placed on vehicles, in dioramas and at positions, matching their number and arrangement to the scene being created.

Tools you'll need:

  • Modelling side cutters for removing parts from the sprues
  • Hobby knife or scalpel
  • Polystyrene cement (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement)
  • Brushes of various sizes
  • Model paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • A wash to emphasise the pressings and edges

About the product – the German jerry can (Wehrmachtskanister):

The 20-litre Wehrmacht canister, developed in Germany in the 1930s, is regarded as the forerunner of the modern fuel can. Its well-thought-out design – a flat shape, a triple handle allowing it to be carried and passed from hand to hand, and internal pressings for added strength – made it a model imitated by many armies. In the early type, the cans differed in manufacturing details from later versions.

Jerry cans were an integral part of military vehicle equipment, carrying fuel and water. The many can brackets seen on vehicles of the period make them a characteristic detail that enriches any diorama and model.
