Description

1:35 scale plastic figure set of Japanese Army officers

Tamiya 35341 is a set of four figures depicting Japanese Army officers from WWII during a field strategy meeting. Two senior officers are seated at a desk examining maps, while a tank officer and an infantry officer are shown in standing poses. The figures wear the Type 98 uniform, introduced in 1938.

The set is supplemented with a rich choice of accessories that allow a realistic command scene to be built: a desk and chairs, field telephones with a case, a telephone cable reel, a radio with generator, and ammunition cases for an infantry gun. Parts reproducing officers' swords, a map pouch and a binocular case are also included.

What's in the box:

  • 4 officer figures: two senior officers at a desk plus a tank officer and an infantry officer
  • Accessories: swords, map pouch, binocular case
  • Desk and chairs, field telephones with a case, telephone cable reel
  • Radio with generator and ammunition cases
  • Decals with rank insignia (from General to 2nd Lieutenant) and printed markings
  • Illustrated assembly instructions with a cut-out map

Set specifications:

  • Scale: 1:35
  • Item number: 35341
  • Manufacturer: Tamiya
  • Contents: 4 figures and accessories

Note: This set does not include glue, paints or modelling tools. The figures are intended for self-assembly.

Building the set:

The figures and accessories are made up of several parts that fit together easily thanks to good engineering. The individual parts, especially the faces and equipment, are best painted before final assembly. It is worth planning the arrangement of the figures around the desk in advance so that the meeting scene forms a coherent composition. The set pairs perfectly with Japanese 1:35 scale vehicles, such as the Type 97 tank or the Type 1 self-propelled gun.

For painting Japanese uniforms of the period, a khaki base shade works well, complemented by leather, metal and wood tones. The uniform folds and small parts benefit from a wash and dry-brushing.

Tools you'll need:

  • Modelling side cutters for removing parts from the sprues
  • Hobby knife or scalpel
  • Files and sandpaper for cleaning up sprue-gate marks
  • Polystyrene cement (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement)
  • Figure brushes (fine sizes)
  • Model paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • A wash to emphasise uniform folds and detail

About the figures – Japanese Army officers:

The Type 98 uniform was introduced in 1938 and worn as standard officer dress from the Second Sino-Japanese War through the Pacific War. Japanese Army officers were distinguished by characteristic rank insignia and traditional equipment, including a sword modelled on old blades.

The figures in this set, shown during a strategy meeting, let you recreate a field command scene and perfectly complement dioramas with Japanese WWII vehicles. The rich set of accessories, including communication equipment, gives the composition realism and character.

About the manufacturer – Tamiya:

Tamiya Corporation is a Japanese model company founded in 1946 by Yoshio Tamiya in Shizuoka. The brand is renowned for exceptionally precise injection moulds and excellent part fit, which also applies to the figures in the Military Miniature Series, valued for their realistic poses and careful reproduction of uniforms. Tamiya figures are popular in dioramas, and the precision of their moulding makes them easy to paint for beginners and advanced modellers alike. Alongside figures and plastic kits, Tamiya offers a full range of modelling supplies: paints, glues, tools and brushes.
