Description

Plastic model kit of the Soviet D-12 armoured car in 1:72 scale

Zebrano 72076 is a self-assembly kit reproducing the Soviet D-12 light armoured car — the anti-aircraft variant of the D-8, built on a passenger-car chassis. The model illustrates a little-known chapter of early Soviet military motoring.

The kit is produced using injection-moulded plastic.

What's in the box:

  • Plastic sprues with the armoured-car parts
  • Decals
  • Assembly instructions

Model specifications:

  • Scale: 1:72
  • Catalogue number: 72076
  • Manufacturer: Zebrano
  • Assembled length: approx. 4.9 cm
  • Difficulty level: intermediate

Note: This kit does not include glue, paint or modelling tools. The model is intended for self-assembly.

Building the model:

This small model is aimed at modellers with some experience — the parts require careful clean-up and test-fitting. The small details are best fitted last.

Soviet vehicles of this period were usually painted in a uniform protective green. Details are best emphasised with a wash, and the whole sealed with a matt varnish.

Required tools:

  • Modelling nippers for removing parts from the sprues
  • Hobby knife or scalpel
  • Files and sanding paper for cleaning up sprue-gate marks
  • Plastic cement (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement)
  • Brushes in various sizes
  • Modelling paints (acrylic or enamel)
  • Modelling wash to emphasise details and recesses

About the vehicle – D-12:

The D-12 is a Soviet light armoured car of the early 1930s, developed by the designer Dyrenkov on the chassis of the GAZ-A passenger car (a licensed version of the Ford Model A). It was the anti-aircraft variant of the D-8 reconnaissance car, with an open fighting compartment and a machine gun on a pintle mount.

Vehicles of this family were built in small numbers and represent an early stage in the development of Soviet armoured cars, before the introduction of more numerously produced designs on dedicated chassis.

Original specifications (D-12):

  • Length: approx. 3.5 m
  • Chassis: GAZ-A passenger car
  • Armament: machine gun on a pintle mount
  • Role: reconnaissance and anti-aircraft defence
  • Crew: 2
  • Period: early 1930s

About the manufacturer – Zebrano:

Its range focuses primarily on World War II vehicles and weapons as well as Soviet designs, offered in various technologies — from injection moulding through resin casting to photo-etched parts. Zebrano specialises in niche subjects and less common vehicles absent from the catalogues of the large manufacturers, which makes its kits attractive to collectors and enthusiasts of rare designs. The company also runs an extensive line of small accessories and weapons in 1:35 and 1:72 scale, and a series of small 1:100 resin models intended for wargaming.
