  • Mask placement instructions

  • Dedicated kit: P-51A from Accurate Miniatures
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – North American P-51A Mustang:

The North American P-51 Mustang was an American single-seat fighter, first flown in 1940, distinguished by its aerodynamic laminar-flow wing. The early P-51A variant was powered by an Allison V-1710 inline engine without a turbo-supercharger, which limited its high-altitude performance. The design offered good level speed and long range for a single-engine fighter of its era.

The P-51A was used mainly for low- and medium-altitude tasks, including reconnaissance and tactical support, as well as in the fighter-bomber role. The Allison engine's high-altitude limitations led to the later re-engining of the Mustang with the Merlin, which gave rise to the successful B/C and D variants. The A version was built in relatively small numbers compared with the later variants.

Original specifications (North American P-51A Mustang):

  • Length: 9.83 m
  • Wingspan: 11.28 m
  • Height: 3.71 m
  • Takeoff weight: approx. 3,900 kg
  • Crew: 1
  • Powerplant: 1 Allison V-1710 inline engine, approx. 1,200 hp
  • Max speed: approx. 620 km/h
  • Ceiling: approx. 9,450 m
  • Range: approx. 1,200 km
  • Armament: 4 x 12.7 mm machine guns, bombs on underwing hardpoints
  • Production: 1942-1943, approx. 300 built
