  • Mask placement instructions

  • Manufacturer: Eduard
  • Dedicated kit: Lysander Mk.I/III from Airfix
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Westland Lysander:

The Westland Lysander was a British single-engine army cooperation aircraft designed by Arthur Davenport and William Petter, first flown in 1936 and entering RAF service in 1938. The high-wing, fabric-covered machine featured automatic slots and flaps and fixed spatted undercarriage, giving it short take-off and landing qualities. In its original role of observation and artillery spotting it proved too slow and vulnerable during the French campaign of 1940.

It became best known for clandestine SOE operations, carrying agents to and from occupied Europe by landing on improvised fields at night (Mk III SD versions with a ventral tank and ladder). Variants included the Mk I with a Mercury XII engine, the Mk II with a Perseus XII, the Mk III and IIIA with Mercury, plus air-sea rescue and target-towing versions. Operators included the RAF, RCAF and the air forces of Free France, Egypt, Turkey and Finland.

Original specifications (Westland Lysander):

  • Length: 9.29 m
  • Wingspan: 15.24 m
  • Height: 4.42 m
  • Empty weight: approx. 1,980 kg
  • Loaded weight: approx. 2,865 kg
  • Crew: 2 (pilot and observer/gunner)
  • Powerplant: 1 x Bristol Mercury radial, approx. 870 hp
  • Max speed: approx. 340 km/h
  • Ceiling: approx. 6,500 m
  • Range: approx. 970 km
  • Armament: 2 fixed 7.7 mm mg in wheel spats, 1 flexible 7.7 mm mg in rear cockpit, up to 227 kg of bombs
  • Production: approx. 1,786 (1938-1942)
