  • Dedicated kit: F9F-2P Panther from Hobbycraft/Trumpeter
  • Accessory type: canopy painting masks
  • Material: yellow Kabuki masking paper, machine-cut

Self-adhesive painting masks – crisp canopy frame edges

Eduard masks are self-adhesive stencils die-cut from low-tack yellow Kabuki masking paper suited to delicate model surfaces. They cover the clear areas of the glazing and leave only the canopy framing exposed, so that after airbrushing you get sharp, even frame edges – hard to achieve when masking by hand with tape.

The recommended method is to apply the masks to clean, degreased glazing, press the edges down firmly and then airbrush the paint. Once the paint has dried, the masks are removed. The masks are intended for single use and should not be left on the model for a long time.

About the aircraft – Grumman F9F Panther:

The Grumman F9F Panther was a single-seat straight-wing carrier-based jet fighter introduced into United States Navy service around the turn of the 1950s. It was one of that navy's first successful carrier jets. It was powered by a single turbojet with air intakes at the wing roots. Fixed fuel tanks were mounted on the wingtips.

The Panther was used extensively during the Korean War for fighter and strike missions from aircraft carriers. Fixed armament consisted of four 20 mm cannon in the nose, supplemented by bombs and rockets on underwing hardpoints. A development of the design was the swept-wing F9F Cougar, carrying the same number but treated as a separate type.

Original specifications (Grumman F9F Panther):

  • Crew: 1
  • Length: 11.3 m
  • Wingspan: 11.6 m
  • Height: 3.7 m
  • Empty weight: 4,220 kg
  • Take-off weight: 8,490 kg
  • Powerplant: 1 x Pratt & Whitney J42 turbojet, 22.2 kN thrust
  • Max speed: approx. 930 km/h
  • Ceiling: 13,600 m
  • Range: approx. 2,100 km
  • Armament: 4 x 20 mm cannon, up to 900 kg of bombs or rockets on underwing hardpoints
  • Production: approx. 1,380 aircraft (1947-1953)
